Royal Belgian Benevolent Society
The Ball is organised for the benefit of the Royal Belgian Benevolent Society (Charity Registration No. 233435). H.M. King Philippe graciously granted his patronage to the Benevolent Society in 2013. The Royal Belgian Benevolent Society was founded in 1866 by King Léopold II – long before the Union and the Cercle that were to become the Anglo-Belgian Society, and long before the Anglo-Belgian Club. It is the oldest foreign charity registered with the Charity Commission.
The original aim was to help Belgians in need in the UK. Today the RBBS is still helping Belgians in need living in the UK. With small donations the trustees of the charity try to help different Belgians who find themselves in difficulties. The RBBS also continues to help young people to achieve their academic or artistic goals.

In addition, RBBS has recently created a special Scholarship to enable a Belgian postgraduate student who would not otherwise have been able to do so, take up a place offered by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
